Essential oils can be used with humidifiers and vaporizers
Internally
All essential oils that are generally regarded as safe or certified food additives by the FDA may be taken safely internally.
Add 2-3 drops in 8-10 ounces of water, juice or soy/rice milk or in food.
Other methods of taking essential oils internally include adding 1 drop of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of honey, drop on bread or vegetable oil then ingest. This method is said to yield great benefits.
The best way for the body to absorb essential oils or health problems such as candida or vaginitis is by way of essential oil insert. Blend 10-20 drops of essential oil and one tablespoon of carrier oil, insert in vagina with syringe at bedtime. You may want to use a pad to avoid spillage. You may also place oil blend in capsules and insert them vaginally at bedtime.
The most effective way to deliver essential oils to the urinary tract or reproductive organs is by way of enema or rectal insert. Blend 20-35 drops of essential oil with a teaspoon of carrier oil, place mixture in a syringe or capsule and place in rectum. Retain mixture through the night and as long as possible. Clean and disinfect applicator after each use.
Topical Application
When using oils in topical application it is a good idea to patch test for skin sensitivity. Most oils can be used undiluted on the soles of the feet, for reflexology and other areas that are not overly sensitive without the concern of skin irritation. Lavender and Tea Tree oil may be applied directly to skin without concerns, however it is recommend diluting essential oils with a "carrier oil" (Olive oil, sweet almond, Jojoba etc). as irritation can occur, especially for first-time users, children and those with sensitive skin. Never put essential oil into the eyes. If this occurs use olive oil or other natural vegetable oil to dilute. DO NOT rinse with water; oil and water do not mix. Using water will push oil deeper into sensitive tissues.
For a greater impact of oils in topical applications, apply a hot water towel, rung out, to target area, then cover the wet towel with a dry towel to seal in heat Do this for about 15-30miniutes. If treating neurological problems, inflamed areas or swollen tissue apply a cold water pack in the same manner. You may also substitute the cold water towel with a package of frozen vegetables.
Add 1-3 drops of essential oil directly on target areas or dilute in ? teaspoon of massage lotion, oil or olive oil. Massage into the skin. For large body application use 15-30drops per ounce of massage oil or carrier oil. 30 drops is considered therapeutic level.
3-6 drops of essential oil may be massaged directly on the feet at reflexology points and meridians.
2 drops neat (undiluted) on the skin. If the area begins to burn immediately add olive oil or massage oil to the affected area.
Create a compress by placing 5-15 drops of essential oil into a basin filled with warm or cool water depending on the person & condition, agitate the water and let stand I minute, place a dry face towel on top of the water to soak up oils floating on surface, wring out, apply on target areas and seal with a dry cloth for 15-30 minutes.
1-3 drops of essential oil can be applied to acupressure points. Using an auricular probe, dip the probe into a drop of oil, then press the point firmly and release.
Mix 5 to 15 drops essential oil in olive oil, bath salts or 1 cup of milk, and then add to the bathwater. Relax in tub for 20 minutes and then rest for 1/2 hour.
Add 1 Tablespoon massage oil and 1-3 drops essential oil to 2-4 ounces of fine grade shower salts, massage on body, shower rinse. WARNING: Use this method before shaving as the salts will sting!
2-5 drops in a large bowl. Cold water will stimulate circulation and be refreshing on a hot summer day when you feel heavy and tired. Use hot water when cool. Soak feet for 15-20 minutes.
Salves
Very useful in treating muscular aches and pains as well as respiratory conditions and skin rashes. To make a salve simply use 1 & 1/4 cup vegetable oil (e.g. a combination of Sunflower, Calendula herbal infusion and Echinacea herbal infusion or simply 100% sunflower or apricot kernel or olive oil) with 1 ounce of beeswax. Melt this down in a double boiler at medium temperature.
Once the beeswax and oil are fluid, remove from stove. At this point you can pour the fluid into small glass jars and customize each salve with desired essential oils. Let the salve cool and harden. You can now use your salve. If the salve comes out to hard or thick you can melt the mixture down again and add more oil. If the salve is too fluid or thin you can melt it down and mix in some more beeswax
